Do you need an E-vignette?
In the toll sections of highways in the Czech Republic, the rule of having a valid E-vignette applies. This requirement applies to motor vehicles with at least four wheels and a maximum permitted weight not exceeding 3.5 tons. If you are unsure whether your vehicle is subject to this obligation, we recommend checking the current information on the official website of the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure (SFDI), which is responsible for managing the E-vignette system. If drivers do not want or need to use toll sections, they have the option to choose alternative routes that are not subject to tolls. This text serves only to provide basic information about the rules for using toll road sections.
Information about the validity checks of E-vignettes in the Czech Republic
The validity of electronic E-vignettes on toll sections of highways in the Czech Republic is monitored by the Czech Police and the Czech Customs Administration. These institutions use vehicle license plates to verify whether vehicles have a valid E-vignette or if they are exempt from the toll fee. The checks are carried out on highways using patrol vehicles equipped with license plate recognition cameras. Another method of verification is the integration with control gates on highway sections. Inspections also take place at rest areas and parking lots.
If a vehicle on a toll section does not have a valid vignette (and is not exempt from the toll), the driver faces a fine of up to 20,000 CZK.
Exemption from the Toll Fee and Penalties for Misuse
Drivers who meet the criteria for exemption from the toll fee are required to report this fact to the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure (SFDI). An unauthorized declaration of exemption with the intent to abuse the system can result in a fine of up to 100,000 CZK. The same penalty applies to drivers who use a vehicle that qualifies for exemption but fail to notify the authorities according to the law. A fine of up to 5,000 CZK may also be imposed for failing to report changes in exemption status within ten working days.
Data Processing for Inspections
The system records vehicles without a valid highway vignette or without a properly reported exemption. These data are then processed by software that separates the images from the details. Only relevant data are then sent to the control system for further processing.

The handling fee enables us to finance the continuation of our project and support tree planting, which helps reduce CO2 emissions associated with road transport. Transport is responsible for approximately one-third of all carbon dioxide emissions in the EU, with 72% of these emissions coming from road transport. Actively contribute to climate protection and support our planet by purchasing a digital permit, which helps expand forests. The amount of the contribution for tree planting depends on the type of digital permit:
• 400 CZK for annual, monthly, and ten-day variants
• 200 CZK for the daily variant.

Our services in compliance with legislation
We would like to emphasize that our company, Elektronická dálnice s.r.o., does not issue highway vignettes according to Act No. 13/1997 Coll., on Road Communications. The only authorized issuer of Czech highway vignettes is the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure (SFDI). Our company only facilitates the purchase of highway vignettes on behalf of users based on a mandate contract in accordance with Sections 2430–2444 of Act No. 89/2012 Coll., the Civil Code. We fully comply with the valid Regulation No. 240/2014 Coll., which sets fixed prices for highway vignettes. We mediate the purchase of the highway vignette at the price set by the regulation. The fee for additional services is listed separately as an individual item on the invoice. This fee is transparent and corresponds to the scope and quality of the services provided. Therefore, our final price on the invoice is transparently higher due to the additional services we offer, and these services are subject to handling fees as per the price list in the valid Terms and Conditions.
Facilitation of highway vignette purchases with additional services
Our service facilitates the purchase of Czech highway vignettes for users from the issuer of the vignettes, SFDI. Based on a mandate contract, we offer extended services such as assistance with the purchase and administration process, CO2 compensation, all for a transparent fee outlined in the Terms and Conditions. Everything is done in accordance with Czech laws – highway vignettes are exclusively issued by SFDI, and we are merely intermediaries, handling the purchase of the vignette on behalf of our customers. The cost of the highway vignette and the handling fee are displayed separately on the invoice. We would like to reiterate that SFDI is the sole issuer of highway vignettes, and we act solely as intermediaries for the purchase in accordance with the valid legislation.
